Summer Program 2008
Be spiritually enriched, join us for all or part of our four delightful programs.
First program: June 5-15. In western terms, Fran Renda, Ph.D. is riding circuit, bringing St. Therese’s joyful love throughout northern New Mexico. From Oke Owinge to Rancho de Taos, she shares Therese’s mission with everyone. At St. Ann’s in Santa Fe, Fran provides deeper insight into Theresian spirituality. Because her schedule varies, contact us for times and places.
Fran Renda, Ph.D., is a Psychotherapist in New York City. She extends the good news of St. Therese’s care throughout the world. Fran took this Carmelite saint’s relics all around the earth, with stops in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. She coauthored a book called “I Thirst”, comparing St. Theresa and Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Each thirsted with the love of Christ for every soul to be with God.
Second program: June 15-20. Probe the wonders of St. John of the Cross. His pilgrimage to God enables shows us the difference between illusion and reality. Bro. Brian Dybowski, FSC, Ph.D. brings this Spanish mystic to life for us. Listen to St. John’s poetry, in Spanish and English, to experience his way to God. He reaches across centuries to entrance us. Hear his powerful prose in the “Ascent of Mt. Carmel”. Explore a profound spiritual experience: evenings: Sunday-Thursday at 7; mornings: Monday-Friday 9-11:30: St. Michael’s Chapel, College of Santa Fe.
Bro. Brian studied St. John of the Cross at the Angelicum in Rome, earning a diploma in Spiritual Theology, to round out Ph.D’s in philosophy and Psychology. He roots St. John of the Cross to Scripture, using the M.A. he earned at. St. Mary’s in San Antonio, Tx.
Third program: June 21. Learn Martin Luther's disagreement with Pope Leo, and how this conflict spread through the world as the Protestant Reformation. Rev. Bob Patterson, M.A. leads us through the spiritual core of this controversy, showing that it developed into something quite different from what Luther wanted. Could this split have been avoided? Is there hope for unity? Are we in better condition now? Join us for a Saturday filled with enthusiastic discussion. We offer two talks in the morning: 9:30 and 11, and two in the afternoon: 1:30 and 3. Join us for review and questions about this momentous disagreement, which is still with us.
Rev. Bob Patterson’s enthusiasm enlivens the religious background for this Church division, and probes deeply into its effects. He is pastor of Bethany Christian Church in El Paso, TX. A graduate of Wesley Theological, he is a Church of Christ minister. His rich ecumenical experience extended to earning an M.A. in Theology from St. Thomas Catholic Seminary in Denver. See how Scripture suffuses his presentations, alive with the Spirit.
Fourth program: June 30. What is Lasallian spirituality? What did St. John Baptist de la Salle do to help people get to God? How did his prayer method inspire millions of people? Come hear Bro. Tim Coldwell, FSC, MA answer these questions and more about the saint who founded the Christian Brothers. His practical spirituality enlivened thousands of Brothers to spread a new educational method throughout the world. Share in this lively spirituality. Join us for a treat.
Bro. Tim’s studies here and in Rome clarified St. LaSalle’s prayer life and spirituality. He leads the Brothers of the New Orleans-Santa Fe province. His training in history and religion enrich his study of Lasallian spirituality. Come experience his dynamic presentation of a saint’s prayer life, and its marvelous results.
