Since 1859, the Brothers have taught in and around Santa Fe. Building from scratch, they gradually erected a premiere educational facility next to San Miguel chapel. The buildings there were the pride of Santa Fe, because they formed the center for education and culture in territorial New Mexico. From that base, the Brothers established schools in Bernalillo, Taos, Mora, and Las Vegas. Brother Botulph established the first public school system in the territory, and staffed many of the schools with Brothers. Today, St. Michael’s High School continues this fine tradition of quality education in the Christian Brothers spirit.
